Latest technology British Gas Remote Heating Control lets you keep your home warm remotely Posted: 14 Mar 2013 12:09 PM PDT When was the last time you got home in a late evening and thought to yourself – if only I could have set the heating timer to stay on a little longer? Or, left the house late when going to work only to remember after arriving at work that you left the heating on? Despite our best efforts, I'm sure this is a situation we now and again run into with unforseen circumstances, but with our current day technology should we need to face such a problem? British Gas thinks otherwise, its latest service called Remote Heating Control™ tries to help us prevent exactly this problem from happening in the first place.
Remote Heating Control (RHC) lets you control your home's central heating no matter where you are and anytime from your mobile phone or online via its myHome interface website or myHome application for iOS or Android. It has been designed to be simple to use and allows you to turn your heating on and off, set your heating schedule and adjust the temperature. When you make changes to your heating either via your web browser, tablet or smartphone, the changes are sent home to the installed hub and passed onto your thermostat which turns on or off your boiler via a wireless receiver. The great thing about it is that you may find yourself saving some money as well by being more in control of your heating and not wasting unecessary energy when no one is at home. You can even allow family members to make changes too via their own devices remotely or if you're feeling lazy, just a text! If you're geeky like me, you may also be interested in setting up automatic on / off heating schedules for your boiler via the myHome app, personally I have always hated doing this with my own thermostat because the buttons never make sense and its never very user-friendly. Further more, if you are really tech-savvy, you can look at fancy temperature graphs and even setup temperature alerts which informs you if your home's temperature goes above or below a certain set level. This to me really is the cherry on the icing! Beating off stiff competition from vacuum Dyson Digital Slim DC44 Animal, robot vacuum cleaner iRobot Roomba 600, Belkin WeMo – the cheapest and easiest way to see the Internet, kitchen gizmo Philips HomeCooker and coffee machine, Krups Barista EA9000. Its no surprise that Stuff Magazine awarded RHC as the Stuff Home Gadget of the year 2012. Even if you're not be a British Gas customer, RHC can still be installed. All that is required is a gas central heating with a thermostat, RHC will work wtih 99% of boilers, an internet connection (router with a spare ethernet port). The total cost of installation isn't as much as you might imagine, £199 for those who are already existing British Gas Energy customers and £229 for customers who are new to British Gas. Check out the demo video below of how RHC and myHome works, if you're interested you can also take a look at the British Gas RHC Facebook page for a chance to win a RHC for your own home (3 to be won!) plus £100 worth of cinema vouchers for a ‘last minute change of plan’.
