Unboxing ASUS Google Nexus 7 Android tablet

Posted: 12 Oct 2013 11:35 AM PDT

To celebrate the launch of their poker site available to Android OS users, Ladbrokes Poker have sent us the ASUS Google Nexus 7 Android tablet. The ASUS Nexus 7 features Android Jellybean 4.2.1, a 7-inch 1280×800 IPS display with gorilla glass panel, a 1.3 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB memory, 16GB storage (32GB option also available), WiFi, bluetooth and 1.2MP camera.

Do be aware this is the 2012 first generation Nexus rather than the recently launched 2013 version, but we thought it would be a great opportunity to add the Nexus 7 to our product reviews section regardless.

Despite it being the 2012 model and first generation Nexus 7, it still proves to be a fantastic tablet with gorgeous looks, feel and extremely pleasing to use. The tablet’s 7-inch multitouch display is very responsive to touch, offering a brilliant user experience. Its no surprise therefore that the Nexus 7 has been a big hit, with great spec and build quality by ASUS and prices that undercuts Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

The Nexus 7 is Google Play ready, doesn’t lag at all when playing racing games like Real Racing.

Since the launch of the new 2013 Nexus 7, Google has dropped the price of the 16GB Nexus 7 to £159, ditched the 8GB model altogether and released a new model with a Kindle Fire HD-matching 32GB of storage, for £199, along with a 3G-laden 32GB model for £239.

Perhaps, the greatest advantage of having an iPad mini sized tablet equipped with display and hardware as generous as the Nexus 7′s is the video / movie experience as seen above, the glossy display may not be so good if viewing from direct sunlight but if you are indoors, the Nexus 7 won’t let you down.

Overall we liked the Nexus 7′s hardware, performance, build quality, pricing and availability of 3G models. Unfortunately, it lacks ability to increase memory capacity by using memory cards, its camera is also not on par with tablets in its class. Google however have addressed these issues with a new and improved thinner, lightweight 2013 Nexus 7 with both front and rear facing cameras, we highly recommend checking it out if a seven-inch tablet is what you’re after.
