Huawei Ascend P6S: Octa-core smartphone confirmed?

Posted: 25 Nov 2013 07:21 AM PST

Most smartphones and tablets use dual-core or quad-core processors, but it seems that Huawei is working on a smartphone that comes with eight cores.

Huawei President, Xu Xin Quan has confirmed that Huawei is working on a successor of Ascend P6, and according to him, this device will be true octa-core device powered by MediaTek. Although Samsung has released its own octa-core processors, these processors are using big.LITTLE technology that swaps between 2 sets of four cores, and one set of these cores is less powerful and designed for less demanding tasks, while other set is designed for processor heavy tasks. Huawei Ascend P6S sounds promising, especially if you need more processor power, but sadly, no official information or hardware specs have been revealed so far.

Huawei Ascend P6S might be the first true octa-core smartphone, but information regarding release date or price isn't available to public. As for announcement, we're hoping to learn more about this device during CES 2014 or MWC 2014.
