Mozilla announces Firefox OS developer preview phones

There had been speculations in the past about Firefox smartphone, and folks from Mozilla have decided to finally address these rumors.



Mozilla officials have unveiled their Firefox OS developer preview phones, and these phones are developed in partnership with Geeksphone and Telefonica. As for the hardware specs, these phones come with 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor, 512 RAM, and a 4GB ROM. In addition, there's a 3.5-inch HVGA multitouch screen, a 3-megapixel camera, and a 1580 mAh battery. There's also Wi-Fi suport, MicroSD, MicroUSB, GPS, G-Sensor, light and proximity Sensor. We should also mention that these phones are unlocked and that they can receive OTA updates, and Mozilla wants to ship these phones so other developers can help them out with the development of Firefox OS. As for Firefox OS, it uses HTML5 for its apps, and it can make phone calls and send text messages.

These smartphones from Mozilla look promising, but we still have to wait and see how will they compete against other smartphones and mobile operating systems.
